An accidental expatriate blogger behind LivingBeyond Borders

Hello, I am Sophie
I work as a project manager. I’m a parent. An expat residing in Paris, France.
A few years back I moved here with my family. What began as a temporary assignment gradually became a new chapter of life abroad.
Origins of the Move
Moving to France wasn’t part of the blueprint for the future. Like many expatriate transitions, it kicked off as a job chance and quickly grew into something far bigger.
The initial weeks were demanding — unfamiliar systems, new routines, elevated expectations. Everyday tasks felt more complicated than expected.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, uncertainty, and a lot of learning by doing. But gradually routines took shape. We found places that fit us, connected with other families, and began building something that felt stable.
Why I Created LivingBeyond Borders
Most information online was either corporate relocation advice or surface tourism material. What was missing was an honest, everyday family view.
This site exists to bridge that gap — practical guidance drawn from real life in France.
What This Site Represents (And What It Does Not)
This site is:
- Real-world experience from living in France
- Centered on family life and everyday realities
- Updated whenever a meaningful change occurs
This site does not include:
- An official tourism authority resource
- A paid-review platform
- Just another generic travel blog
What Lies Ahead
Our time in France continues, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains helpful, I’ll keep documenting what we discover.
If you have questions about family life in Paris or anywhere in France, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
Best regards,
Sophie
